Shopify product change history guides

How to catch a bad price before a customer does, recover a permanently deleted product, and undo a mistaken edit on Shopify — each guide shows what Shopify's own Activity Log tells you, exactly where it stops, and how to get the rest.

Shopify's Activity Log records THAT something changed. It does not record the value before, does not tell you when a change crosses a threshold you care about, and offers no undo.

Three things that fall outside what the native log offers:

  • The value before a change, not just that one happened
  • An alarm when a change crosses a rule you set — a price drop, an unpublish, an oversell
  • A one-click undo, and recovery for a product deleted outright

Every guide below covers one real case and answers the same three questions: what Shopify's native Activity Log actually shows, exactly where that stops, and how to get the rest.

  • Three Things a Product-History App Honestly Will Not Do

No app can name the person who made a change, restore an image it never had, or send push alerts if it doesn't build that in. Here's what that actually means in practice, and why it's worth saying plainly before you install anything.

  • How the Flagged View Works: A Walkthrough of /app/changes

A walkthrough of the All/Flagged change feed — which of the eleven tracked fields can trigger a flag, which flags are on by default, and how to adjust the thresholds so the view stays useful instead of noisy.

  • Catching a Wrong Price Before a Customer Buys at It

A price that dropped 90% by mistake — a typo, a bulk-edit error, a misbehaving app — sells at the wrong number until someone notices. Here's how a suspicious-change flag can catch it before that happens, and what the flag is actually checking.

  • Shopify's Activity Log vs a Dedicated Product-History App: What Each Actually Records

A neutral, factual look at what Shopify's native Activity Log records about product changes, and what a dedicated product-history app adds on top — no ratings, no pricing table, just what each mechanism actually stores.

  • Why Doesn't Shopify's Activity Log Show Before/After Values?

Shopify's Activity Log tells you a product was updated, by whom or what app, and when — but not what the price, title or description actually changed from and to. Here's why, and what actually has to be running to see both values.

  • How to Recover a Deleted Product on Shopify

Shopify has no bin and no native undo for a deleted product — once it's gone, it's gone. Here's what the Activity Log actually shows, why it can't bring a product back, and how a recovery copy makes restoring one possible.
